I am an author, attorney, expert witness, and professional speaker on the legal and cultural implications of emerging technology. I am a graduate of Boston College Law School and Amherst College, and the author of five books, including most recently "American Privacy: The Four-Hundred Year History of Our Most Contested Right" (Beacon Press 2009). In addition to my writing, I have worked as a computer forensics expert for the past decade, assisting attorneys and their clients in the investigation and defense of a wide range of cases, including embezzlement, domestic relations, obscenity, child pornography, and first degree murder. As an acknowledged expert in the subjects covered by my books and professional work, I have frequently been invited to lecture before college, university, and professional audiences on Internet technology, workplace and personal privacy, computer forensics, and censorship issues. I am currently the chairman of the Burlington School Board and serve on the Board of Directors for Vermont Community Access Media.
